PK Camp 2019
Pastor’s Kids – fondly known as PKs – are a group of children with a unique set of experiences and needs. Open to various kinds of pressures that arise within family, church and social contexts, this group of youth often end up neglected, confused and in most cases drifting away from their God-given destiny.
Focusing attention to this need, a 3 day retreat for AG Pastor’s kids aged 10 to 18 was held for the second consecutive year from the 8th to 10th of April at MAS Athena, Thulhiriya. 150 Pastor’s kids representing all regions of the country were blessed to spend time learning and having fun together.
Four powerful main sessions empowering these youngsters to “Rise Up & Soar” were conducted by the guest speakers from the United States led by Pastor Perry Dissmore inspiring PKs to “Soar” above challenges of loneliness and anxiety emphasizing the promise that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength and they will “Rise Up” like eagles.
Eye-opening workshops on topics such as Identity, Sexuality & Boundaries, Ministry and vocation were conducted by Shyamini from Community Concerns, Mr. Ramesh Schaffter and Pastor Damien Koch. A Q & A session opened the floor for PKs to voice out some of their concerns and confusions on the journey.
A special session was held for parents on the final day, helping to bridge the gap between expectations of PKs and parents. The time of prayer at the end when parents and children came to the altar together was indeed a powerful time of healing and reconciliation for many. Many returned with renewed purpose and clarity to move forward.
Participants enjoyed exuberant times of worship, delicious meals, fun filled games and activities and plenty of time in the swimming pool making friendships that will last a life time. A big thank you to the organizers, missionaries, guests and participants who made this camp a roaring success! Until next time…
